AZCOPS Bulletin | Battle of the Badges

The Maricopa Community Colleges Police Officers Association is co-sponsoring the Battle of the Badges Hope Charity Flag Football game for Injured Officers and Scholarships.

Friday, April 26th @ 1900
Mesa Community College Football Stadium

Please submit nominations of AZ Injured Officers to be beneficiaries of the game to Jim Hill

Criteria: On-duty injury, occurred in the last year, creating financial hardship, willing to be featured in game media and available to attend the game as an honorary team captain. Only 2 will be chosen.

The 9th annual Battle of the Badges game will pit First Responders (Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS and Military) from the North Valley against the South Valley to benefit local injured Officers and provide scholarships for future First Responders.

The game itself is the culmination of a larger program within AZLEOS Code 3 Sports. Leading up the game itself the First Responder adult teams from numerous agencies will hold 6-8 weeks’ worth of practices. In conjunction with each adult team there is also a Teen team. (The Teen program is open to anyone 15-18 years old and still in High School.) The Teens then practice with their adult team, where they are also mentored and coached by the adult First Responders, while being treated as teammates. This opportunity presents a unique experience to get to know the people behind the badges that isn’t available to most teens.

On the day of the Battle of the Badges, the teen teams will play prior to the First Responder game. Both teen teams will wear authentic college football jerseys from Mesa Community College to reinforce the teen-college connection. The teen team that wins will give their First Responder team a 2 point lead to start the main event. This twist ensures that our First Responders have a vested interest in coaching the teen players.

Player Eligibility: LE, Fire, EMS, Military (sworn/civilian active/retired) or immediate family. Players for the Teen Teams: 15-18 and still in High School

The North Valley will practice at Mesa Community College on Sundays at 1000. Contact Jim Hill if interested.

The South Valley will be practicing in the Chandler area days TBD. Contact Ron Kelly if interested.
