Arizona officials launch holiday DUI enforcement push


 Law enforcement officials gathered at the state Capitol Tuesday to publicize the launch of their annual DUI enforcement and sober designated driver campaigns.

State, local and federal officials highlighted the dangers of impaired driving and describe heightened enforcement effort by task forces across the state between now and the New Year’s holiday.

“This demonstrates our continuing commitment to make our streets as safe as possible,” Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery told the gathering.

Montgomery said the goal of the campaign is to get people who’ve had too much to drink to use alternate sources of transportation.

Col. Frank Milstead, director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, says the need is urgent to make the roads safe between now and New Year’s Day.
