Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams to be sworn in today
Phoenix police leadership is changing Friday afternoon, with city officials saying goodbye to retiring Chief Joe Yahner and swearing in Jeri Williams to lead Arizona’s largest law-enforcement agency.
The move is a milestone: It marks the first time in its history that the city will employ a female police chief.
Williams, a Phoenix police veteran, recently stepped down from her role as police chief in Oxnard, Calif., to accept the role.
The Phoenix Police Department is holding back-to-back ceremonies for the outgoing and incoming chiefs Friday afternoon at the Phoenix Convention Center.
Williams’ swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will include remarks from Mayor Greg Stanton and other city officials….
